About the Program

The AFS Global STEM Accelerators program is a 12-week virtual exchange for young women aged 15-17.5 interested in STEM, sustainability, and social impact. Co-developed with the University of Pennsylvania, the program focuses on global competence skills and sustainability-focused workshops, culminating in social impact projects addressing real-world challenges like climate change and energy transition. Participants earn an Advanced Certificate on Global Competence for Social Impact from AFS and the University of Pennsylvania Center for Social Impact Strategy. The program aims to empower young women in STEM and bridge the gender gap in STEM fields.

Eligibility

Applicants must have a strong interest in STEM fields, sustainability, and global competencies. Curiosity and willingness to interact with diverse global peers and explore new cultures are required. Participants need access to a computer, smartphone, or other digital device with an integrated webcam and microphone, and a stable internet connection. Applicants from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. Proficiency in English is necessary to participate fully in the program. Must be 15-17.5 years old at the program start date (Birthdate between September 1, 2008, and May 31, 2011 for the 2026 program). High school students.

How to Apply

The application process requires submitting an online application form, Academic History, Parent/Guardian Permission Form, Recommendation Letter, and Photo Release Form. Applications for the 2026 program opened on February 13, with a deadline in mid-April and admissions decisions in May.
