About the Program

The Euclid Contest is an annual mathematics competition for senior secondary school students, organized by the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) at the University of Waterloo. It is designed to challenge students with innovative problems requiring creativity and a strong command of secondary school mathematics. The contest consists of 10 questions in a mix of short-answer and full-solution formats, completed in 2.5 hours and scored out of 100. Some calculators are permitted.

The contest takes place in April each year at participating schools worldwide: April 6, 2027 for schools in North and South America, and April 7, 2027 for schools elsewhere. The entry fee is CAD $18 per student, paid by the school. Recognition includes a Certificate of Distinction for the top 25% of participants, a Contest Medal for school champions, and provincial, national, and international honour rolls. The top 5 Canadian participants receive a $500 prize and plaque; the next 10 receive $200. Strong performance on the Euclid Contest is also considered in scholarship decisions for applicants to the University of Waterloo's Faculty of Mathematics.

Students participate through their schools; there is no individual registration portal. Students should ask their math teacher or school contest supervisor to register through the CEMC Contest Supervisor Portal. Schools must order materials by March 11, 2027.
