The Economics World Cup (EWC) is a global online economics competition for high school students, run in teams of 2–6. The competition has no restrictions on team composition — students may team up with anyone worldwide, regardless of school or country.
The competition runs in two rounds. Round 1 is a 50-question multiple choice test lasting one hour, covering economics knowledge and problem-solving. Teams where at least one member places in the top 15% of individual test-takers advance to the Finals, a team case competition that tests real-world economic analysis. Prizes include international trips, representation at a World Youth Forum Global Conference, and Ivy League university mentorship. Prizes are selected in ranking order: the top-placed team picks first, then second, and so on.
The competition typically runs January through late March each year. The 2026 cycle ran through March 2026; the 2027 cycle is expected to follow a similar January–March schedule.
