About the Program

The International History Olympiad is a biennial competition for primary and secondary school students, held in odd-numbered summers. The 6th edition took place July 20–26, 2025 in Paris, bringing together 432 students from 61 affiliations across 24 countries. The next edition is scheduled for Summer 2027.

Students compete in buzzer-based quiz rounds, multiple choice exams, and historical games, alongside field trips and social activities. Qualification is through IAC-organized History Bee and History Bowl tournaments held across Asia, Canada, Europe, and the USA, or via the Olympiad Qualifying Exam for students without local tournament access.

Eligibility

Open to primary and secondary school students worldwide. Students qualify by participating in IAC-organized History Bee and History Bowl quiz tournaments (held across Asia, Canada, Europe, and the USA) or by passing the Olympiad Qualifying Exam.
