The International Young Physicists' Tournament (IYPT) is a prestigious annual team competition for high school students, organized since 1988. National teams of up to five students research 17 complex, open-ended physics problems released each year and present their findings through structured oral rounds called "Physics Fights," in which teams present, oppose, and review each other's solutions before an international jury of physicists.
Teams qualify through their country's national IYPT or physics olympiad organization. The global tournament rotates host countries each year; the 2026 edition takes place July 5–12 in Zurich, Switzerland. Team fees are paid by the national organization (not individual students). The IYPT received the IUPAP medal in 2013 in recognition of its contribution to physics education worldwide.
To participate, students should contact their national IYPT representative or physics olympiad organization and aim to qualify through the national selection tournament.
