Sigma Xi Student Research Showcase

ClosedScienceSTEMCompetition

About the Program

The Sigma Xi Student Research Showcase is an annual virtual science communication competition organized by Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society. It is open to high school, undergraduate, and graduate students worldwide who have conducted original research in any scientific discipline.

Participants build a research website with three components: a written abstract, a technical slideshow presenting their methodology and findings, and a short video explaining their research to a general audience. Submissions are evaluated by 60+ volunteer Sigma Xi member scientists across 13 categories: Agriculture, Anthropology, Cell Biology, Chemistry, Ecology, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Geosciences, Human Behavioral Sciences, Math/Computer Science, Microbiology, Physics/Astronomy, and Physiology/Immunology. Judges also engage in digital conversations with presenters during the event window.

The event runs virtually each April. Registration is $50 for non-members and $35 for Sigma Xi members; group rates of $30 per student apply for registrations of 10 or more. The 2026 event ran April 12–26; the 2027 dates have not yet been announced.
