The World Mathematics Team Championship (WMTC) is an annual international mathematics competition founded in 2009–2010 that brings together student teams from around the world to compete across three collaborative rounds. Unlike individual olympiads, WMTC is built around teamwork — students work together on relay chains and team problem sets alongside individual tests, making strategy and communication as important as raw mathematical ability. The competition rotates between host cities each year (past editions: Beijing, Seoul, Doha, Bangkok).
Three levels of competition:
| Level | Eligibility (2026) | School stage |
|---|---|---|
| Junior | Born 2014 or later | Primary school |
| Intermediate | Born 2011 or later | Middle school |
| Advanced | Born 2008 or later, not yet graduated | High school |
Students may compete at a higher level than their age qualifies for but not a lower one.
Competition format:
Each team of 6 students competes across three rounds:
- Individual Round: Each student completes a set of problems independently
- Relay Round: Team members pass answers down a chain — each student's answer feeds the next problem
- Team Round: All team members collaborate to solve a shared problem set
Individual, relay, and team scores are combined to determine overall rankings.
2026 event (Bangkok, Thailand):
