The Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) is an annual problem-solving competition run by the Australian Maths Trust (AMT), open to students in Years 3–12 worldwide. It is Australia's longest-running, largest, and best-known school mathematics competition, and is available both in Australia and internationally.
Five divisions:
- Middle Primary (Years 3–4)
- Upper Primary (Years 5–6)
- Junior (Years 7–8)
- Intermediate (Years 9–10)
- Senior (Years 11–12)
Format: 30 questions (25 multiple-choice + 5 integer-answer); no penalty for incorrect answers; maximum 135 marks. Primary divisions: 60 minutes; secondary divisions: 75 minutes. Available online or as a printed paper.
Awards (in order): Participation → Proficiency → Credit → Distinction → High Distinction → Prize → Best in School → Cheryl Praeger Medal → AMC Medal → Peter O'Halloran Award (perfect score).
Fee: AUD $9.30 per student (bundle discounts available for schools entering multiple students).
International entry: Online entries due July 31; printed entries due June 26. Competition held in early August each year.
