Economics for Leaders (EFL), offered by the Foundation for Teaching Economics, combines economic reasoning with leadership development through residential university-campus programs and a separate synchronous virtual option.
Cycle status, checked November 4, 2026: The official Student Programs page explicitly states 2026 applications are closed and 2027 applications will open in December 2026. It does not name an exact opening day or a 2027 deadline. The residential program page still describes summer 2026 eligibility and rolling review. Those past-cycle statements must not be treated as an active 2027 application calendar.
The published 2026 eligibility is current high school sophomores and juniors. The application FAQ describes three personal insight responses, complete high school transcripts, an adult recommendation and a US$35 nonrefundable processing fee. The international student page sets March 18, 2026 as the completion deadline for international residential applicants; that is separate from general rolling review and does not establish a virtual or 2027 cutoff. Program weeks varied by site and format, as listed on the official program page, and are alternatives rather than continuous summer attendance.
The published cost and scholarship page lists US$2,800 residential with tuition, room and board, or US$900 virtual, with travel separate. Aid is limited to US citizens or US residents, typically US$100–2,000 residential or US$100–600 virtual; full tuition awards are extremely rare. International participation eligibility and scholarship eligibility are different: a student’s citizenship alone does not establish US-resident aid status. These are published 2026-era terms; 2027 dates, fees, grade reference dates and aid policy remain unannounced.
