The Harvard Pre-Collegiate Economics Challenge (HPEC) is an annual in-person quiz bowl competition for high school students, organized by the Harvard Undergraduate Economics Association (HUEA) and held on Harvard's campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The current page describes high-school teams with coaches; specific 2027 eligibility and registration rules are pending.
Teams compete across individual and team rounds, testing knowledge of AP Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, economic theory, economic news, history, recent research, and interdisciplinary applications. The competition follows a bracket format with Champions, Finalists, Semifinalists, and Quarterfinalists recognized. Past champions include Choate Rosemary Hall (2025).
2027 cycle check, November 4, 2026: The official HPEC page calls spring 2027 tentative and says exact dates will be confirmed when registration opens. It describes an in-person day at Harvard Yard, with high-school teams and coaches; full rules, team size and registration details will be posted at opening. A 2027 fee, exact application window, payment route and geographic requirements are not verified.
The former catalog listed April 11, 2026 registration, April 18 event, $125 per team and 1–4 members. The current official page no longer corroborates those exact historical values, so they are retained here only as unverified prior-catalog history, not new-cycle rules. A recurring early-April deadline, mid-April event or parent-coach permission is not assumed. The current page publishes 2025–26 results, including Phillips Exeter Team 1 as champion, separately from the future registration notice.
