The International History Olympiad, organized by International Academic Competitions (IAC), is a biennial event bringing together primary and secondary school history students from across the world for a week of academic competitions, field trips, historical games, and social activities. The 2025 edition was held in Paris, France, with 61 affiliated organizations across 24 countries, 3 regions, and 34 US states. The next Olympiad is confirmed for July 17–24, 2027 at Hotel MOA in Berlin, Germany. Optional pre/post tours and day trips have separate dates and are not part of every participant’s attendance.
Competitions include buzzer-based quiz rounds, multiple-choice exams, and other medal events, with students placed in divisions from Elementary through Varsity. Students qualify by performing well in IAC History Bee and History Bowl tournaments or by passing the Olympiad Qualifying Exam. The Costs page still describes 2025 Paris tuition and lodging, not confirmed 2027 prices. For 2027, families and school groups must book Hotel MOA through the official booking link when available, except for specific financial-aid dispensations; unaccompanied Varsity and Junior Varsity students are assigned rooms by IAC after registration. Breakfast is included in the hotel rate; other meals are separate.
The registration page says qualification began in September 2025. Current pages plan late-November 2026 registration: the event announcement says by November 23, while the Costs page says around November 25 and the schedule page plans a draft by November 25. These are differing plans, not a confirmed exact opening day. No 2027 final registration or payment deadline was published as of November 4, 2026; the June 2025 deadlines on the Costs page are historical. The qualifying page also retains older exam-division examples, so follow the applicable country and academic-year rules rather than carrying those examples forward.
