OpenSciencePhysicsSummer Program

About the Program

The London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF) is a prestigious 14-day residential STEM program held annually at Imperial College London and The Royal Geographical Society in South Kensington, London. Founded in 1959, it brings together approximately 500 students aged 16–21 from 90+ countries for an immersive science experience including lectures from Nobel laureates, visits to top UK university research centers, and specialist STEM sessions.

Programme highlights:

  • The residential booking page lists 8 main lecture demonstrations plus networking and debate sessions
  • 4 day visits to leading UK university departments, laboratories, and research centers (choice from a wide range of visits)
  • 4 specialist lecture sessions, chosen from 32 offered, across AI, nanotechnology, engineering, robotics, biology, medicine, chemistry, physics, math, and astrophysics
  • Science Bazaar project presentations
  • Active social and cultural programme

Residential booking-page fee (£3,450) covers:

  • 13 nights accommodation in South Kensington, central London
  • All meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
  • Included lecture sessions and scientific visits, with associated programme transport; optional visits can cost extra
  • Social programme and certificate of participation

Application: Both individual and group applications are accepted. A virtual (LIYSF Virtual) option is also available for students unable to attend in person.

Verified 2027 process: The residential booking page confirms July 18–31, 2027 and £3,450; the parent toolkit explicitly gives May 30, 2027 as the application deadline. Applications are considered first-come. The booking table lists acceptance confirmation within seven days, £950 deposit within 14 days of acceptance and £2,500 balance by June 4; the payment row does not separately print the year. The teacher toolkit still lists £3,295, so official price statements differ. Travel to/from London, optional visits, visa, airport transfers and travel/health insurance are excluded. Individual applicants need an academic reference, university-entry-level science preparation and good English.

The virtual booking page is separate and undated: £395, a 12-day virtual programme, a July 1 cutoff and content access for two months afterward. Its exact 2027 dates/fee applicability are unconfirmed. Participants arrange their own financial assistance; a universal full-funding offer was not verified. Checked November 4, 2026.

Eligibility

Ages 16–21 when the event takes place, worldwide; studying STEM/science and preparing for or having university-entry qualifications, with good spoken/written English. Individual applicants need an academic referee. Individual/group routes and a separate virtual option exist. Australia, Brazil, Canada and China use national coordinators: direct applicants are referred, and applicants already registered nationally should not submit duplicate forms.

How to Apply

Residential 2027 applications due May 30, 2027, with first-come consideration. Booking table says confirm acceptance within seven days and pay £950 deposit within 14 days of acceptance; £2,500 balance due June 4 without a separately printed calendar year in that payment row. These are payment/acceptance steps, not the application cutoff. Provide academic referee for individual entry; groups use coordinator form. Virtual page instead gives a yearless July 1 cutoff and £395 price; its exact 2027 applicability/dates are unconfirmed.
