British Psychology Olympiad (BPO)

OpenSocial ScienceCompetition

About the Program

The British Psychology Olympiad (BPO) is an online psychology competition for secondary school students in Years 9-12 from the UK and internationally. The competition runs across three rounds: Round 1 is a 90-minute multiple choice quiz, Round 2 features open-ended psychology questions, and Round 3 is an essay submission. Students are awarded Gold, Silver, or Bronze certificates based on percentile rankings (top 10%, 10-30%, and 30-60% respectively), with Champion, Second Place, and Third Place titles for the highest scorers. Top performers are invited to the Beyond the Syllabus Psychology Summer School. The registration fee is £15. International students are welcome; students in China register separately through ASEEDER.

The 2027 registration page, linked from the official Olympiad page, was checked November 4, 2026. Registration is advertised as open and closes January 31, 2027 at 9 a.m. GMT. The two testing dates are February 7 and February 21, with 9 a.m.–10:30 p.m. GMT availability; these are separate rounds, not a continuous programme. The invited Global Round essay cutoff is April 4, 2027; no exact essay cutoff time was verified.

GBP 15 covers Olympiad registration. Eligible high performers may receive summer-school invitations and vouchers, but the organizer says those programme dates and prices will follow the results. No exact registration opening day, full summer-school funding or subsequent competition cycle was verified.

Eligibility
