About the Program

The Slingshot Challenge invites young people to explain an environmental solution in a video of up to one minute. The official challenge page and 2027 materials/FAQ, checked November 4, 2026, confirm a September 9, 2026 opening and February 5, 2027 submission deadline at 11:59 p.m. EST. Awards and People’s Choice voting are planned for May 2027; exact dates remain TBA.

Entrants must be 13–18 at submission and may live in any country. Videos must be English or Spanish, at most one minute and 200 MB, with original or copyright-free content. Individuals and teams of up to six are welcome; each member must complete the required portal steps and consent. The 2027 FAQ excludes prior funding award recipients from entering again.

The official linked portal advertises a free account, but an explicit contest entry-charge statement was not verified. A small number of selected submissions may receive up to USD 10,000 in unrestricted awards, shared equally within teams; this is a prize opportunity rather than guaranteed funding for every entrant. No later-cycle dates were verified.

Eligibility

Youth ages 13–18 at the time of submission from any country may enter individually or in teams of up to six. Each video must address an environmental issue, be in English or Spanish, last no more than one minute, and be no larger than 200 MB. Under 18 participants need parent/guardian consent. Previous funding award recipients are not eligible to participate again under the 2027 FAQ.
