The Edinburgh Award for Flash Fiction is an international writing competition run by the Scottish Arts Trust, whose 2026 rules were open to writers worldwide over 16 by September 1, 2026. Entries are flash fiction of up to 250 words on any topic in any genre, including literary, crime, and romance. Both published and unpublished writers are welcome. The 2026 competition is judged by award-winning author Meg Pokrass. The official page lists £2,000 for first place, but gives inconsistent second/third prizes (£500/£250 in the overview and £400/£200 in the detailed rules), alongside a £500 Golden Hare Award for Scotland-based writers, and a £250 Write Mango Award. The top 15 shortlisted stories are published in the Edinburgh Anthology. The published 2026 fee is £10 per story; bursary windows are described differently across the official page, as recorded in the cohort notes.
Checked November 4, 2026 against the official flash page and dated rules, calendar, and bursary page. May 1-August 31, 2026 and the February 20, 2027 awards event are confirmed. Annual recurrence is explicitly published, but no new year-specific entry window is fabricated. Conflicting bursary cutoff and runner-up prize amounts remain disclosed.
