About the Program

The Junior CyberSecurity Olympiad (IJCO) is an annual international online competition organized by SIMCC in collaboration with the National Cybersecurity R&D Lab (NCL) and the Centre for Nurturing Computing Excellence (CeNCE) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). The competition is designed to expose secondary school students to applied cybersecurity concepts through self-paced training modules and a timed competition.

Topics covered:

  • Cryptography (classical ciphers, encoding, basic cryptanalysis)
  • Networking Fundamentals (protocols, packet analysis, network security concepts)
  • Red Teaming / Capture-the-Flag (CTF) challenges
  • Digital Forensics (file analysis, steganography, evidence recovery)

Competition structure:

  • Participants complete self-paced training modules before the competition window
  • The competition itself is taken online in a timed format
  • Two tiers: National Olympiad (NJCO) for Singapore students; International Olympiad (IJCO) for students worldwide through SIMCC country partners

Training resources: Training materials are developed by NCL and are available through the SIMCC portal after registration. These are designed to introduce students with no prior cybersecurity background to the core topics.

Awards: Medals and certificates for top-performing participants; specific tier criteria are published closer to the competition date.

Registration: Registration is handled through SIMCC's local country partners. Check jco.simcc.org for your country's partner organization and current registration details.
