About the Program

The Brain Awareness Video Contest (BAVC) is run annually by the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) / BrainFacts to showcase short educational videos about neuroscience. Under the published 2026 rules, contestants created a video of up to four minutes on a neuroscience topic and had an SfN member submit it; non-members needed member sponsorship. General audience descriptions are not treated as confirmed next-cycle eligibility.

Historical 2026 prizes: First Place $4,000 plus complimentary registration to SfN's Neuroscience Annual Meeting; Second Place $500; Third Place $250; People's Choice $500. The published 2026 rules accepted all video languages with English subtitles for non-English work and permitted AI-assisted content with disclosure; future-cycle requirements remain unannounced.

Checked November 4, 2026 against the official overview with 2026 winners and rules. The rules explicitly verify March 20-June 29, 2026 despite a retained 2025 label in one sentence. The former blanket all-ages/worldwide eligibility assertion is not carried forward as a verified next-cycle rule.

Eligibility

Published 2026 rules allowed SfN members and non-members whose entries were sponsored and submitted by a member. SfN employees, their families, and household members were excluded. Under-18 appearances required parental consent. No next-cycle age or geographic eligibility is confirmed.

How to Apply

Historical 2026 entries opened March 20 and were due June 29 at 11:59 p.m. PST. Entrants uploaded an unlisted YouTube video with comments disabled, and an SfN member submitted the awards-site application, complete video file, and transcript. The official overview has announced 2026 winners. No 2027 deadline or submission rules have been found.
