About the Program

Project Green Challenge (PGC), run by Turning Green, is a free environmental challenge open worldwide. Its daily challenge phase runs October 1–30, with a new theme at 8 a.m. PT and generally 24 hours to complete each challenge. The 2026 daily phase has ended; its virtual finals remain upcoming on November 21–22, 2026. The next cycle’s dates have not been confirmed in the checked sources.

Individual participation is broadly open, subject to prior-finalist/winner and organizer-related exclusions; minors need guardian permission. Prizes and finalist selection require eligible students aged 16–25 by October 1. Finalists must remain enrolled through April 30 of the following year. Every member of a team of up to four must be aged 16–25 by October 1 and enrolled in high school, college, university or graduate school. Individuals cannot also enter on a team; only one representative per team and one student per school advances. Deliverables must be in English. Prizes can only be shipped to US addresses under the current rules.

Up to 14 finalists are selected using challenge engagement, an exam, a Climate Action Project proposal and a video of up to two minutes. The current 2026 finals are virtual, replacing the catalog’s older San Francisco trip description. Under Section 7 of the official rules, the champion is eligible for USD 1,000, subject to the judges’ selection. The earlier USD 5,000 claim is not a confirmed 2026 prize.

Eligibility

Individual participation is broadly open worldwide and is free, subject to the rules’ prior-finalist/winner and organizer-related exclusions; minors need parent or guardian permission. Only eligible students aged 16–25 by October 1 of the competition year may win prizes; finalist eligibility also requires enrollment through April 30 of the following year. High-school-level homeschool students are included in prize eligibility. Submissions must be in English. A team may have up to four members, all aged 16–25 by October 1 and enrolled in high school, college, university or graduate school; individuals cannot also join a team. Only one team representative can advance to the finals. Teams, prizes and finalist eligibility require age 16–25 by October 1 of the competition year, with the relevant school-enrollment conditions. General individual participation has no stated numeric age cutoff.

How to Apply

Register through the official PGC site and complete daily challenges during October 1–30. Each new challenge opens at 8 a.m. PT and is generally live for 24 hours, with exceptions stated per challenge. The 2026 daily challenge phase is past; the virtual finals take place November 21–22, 2026. Finals applicants must complete the organizer’s required exam, project proposal and video of up to two minutes; the rules say all components are due by the end of October without an exact clock. No current registration deadline before October 1 or 2027 cycle dates are confirmed.
