Yale Summer Session (Pre-College)

Yale Summer Session (Pre-College) lets eligible rising seniors and recent high school graduates take credit-bearing Yale undergraduate courses taught by Yale faculty, alongside enrolled Yale students held to the same academic standards. Students may order an official Yale transcript (for a fee) after completing their courses. Courses are offered both in-person in New Haven and online.

2027 sessions:

Residential move-in is May 30 for A or July 4 for B. Session A move-out is by July 2 at 6 p.m. EDT; Session B move-out is by August 7 at 9 a.m. EDT. The academic sessions are separate options, and housing timing differs from class dates.

2027 costs: Each one-credit course is $5,690; two separate one-credit courses total $11,380. A single two-credit course has a separately listed $11,130 rate. Residential students must take two courses. Room and board and CISI health insurance are still TBA, so a complete residential total cannot yet be confirmed. The Yale Health fee is $215 per five-week residential session for visiting students. Online courses have an $85 technology fee per course; international visitors receiving an I-20 pay a $125 processing fee. The application fee is $80 and non-refundable. The $550 enrollment charge includes a non-refundable $500 tuition credit and $50 administrative fee.

The historical 2026 catalog recorded Session A May 25–June 26, Session B June 29–July 31 and February 20 priority admission. Current official pages no longer verify that old schedule; the historical cohort identities are retained without treating those dates as current. The old 2026 residential cost estimate is not a 2027 price.

Academics:

• Residential students must take two courses per session; two courses totaling two credits is the maximum allowed for pre-college students
• Choose from a wide catalog spanning sciences, humanities, social sciences, quantitative fields, languages, and arts
• Some courses restrict pre-college enrollment — check individual course descriptions
• Courses may be taken in-person, online, or one of each per session
• Official Yale transcript available from the Office of the Registrar

Residential:

• Pre-college students taking in-person courses are required to live on campus unless commuting from a family home in the New Haven area
• Students under 18 live together in a residential college and follow a curfew and special regulations
• Yale undergraduates serve as residential counselors

Financial aid for 2027: Newly announced YSS Scholarships may support eligible rising high-school seniors whose parents or guardians have AGI under $200,000 on a 2025 or 2026 U.S. federal tax return. The maximum is $1,800 per course for up to two credit-bearing courses; awards are limited and not guaranteed. This does not establish eligibility for every recent graduate or international applicant. Request support and supply documents in the application, preferably in the priority round. Late requests are unusual and materials received after April 12 for A or May 17 for B will not be reviewed.

2027 application and payment dates:

All dates in this table are 2027. Rolling admission decisions are expected within ten business days of a complete application, with an enrollment deposit due one week after admission. No application cutoff clock or timezone is stated. The current cycle has priority followed by rolling admissions, without the old separate regular round.
