The Taiwan Scholarship is the Taiwanese Ministry of Education's award for international students taking a full bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree at a university in Taiwan. It sits alongside the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship, which funds Mandarin language study instead.
The Ministry of Education track pays tuition and miscellaneous expenses up to NTD 40,000 a semester, with the student covering anything above that, and adds a monthly stipend of NTD 15,000 for undergraduates and NTD 20,000 for graduate students. A separate track funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs pays a larger monthly stipend without a tuition component and is limited to countries with diplomatic relations with Taiwan.
Awards run for a maximum of four years for a bachelor's degree, two for a master's and four for a doctorate, capped at five years in total across all levels.
Applications follow the current submission requirements of the Taiwanese overseas mission responsible for the applicant's country or jurisdiction. Some missions require online submission, so applicants should not assume a printed or posted application is accepted. A separate admission application must go to each university. The award period runs from 1 September to 31 August.
