About the Scholarship

The Stamps Scholarship at the University of Connecticut is a full cost-of-attendance award renewable for four years, and the only UConn merit scholarship that publishes a figure of that kind. On top of it, recipients receive a one-time $12,000 enrichment award to spend on research and experiential learning, and guaranteed admission to UConn's highly selective Honors Programme.

UConn lists Stamps under 'Available to All Applicants', in contrast to the Nutmeg and Day of Pride scholarships reserved for Connecticut residents and the Global awards reserved for international applicants. It is restricted to the Storrs campus.

The process is the most demanding of any award on this page. You submit the admissions application by 1 November, then a supplemental application through the applicant portal by 8 November, and shortlisted candidates sit an interview with the Admissions Committee and the Stamps Scholars Programme. You may enter only one of Stamps, Nutmeg or Day of Pride, so the choice is part of the strategy.

Two things to plan around. Selection is described as highly competitive, and early decision applicants learn their Stamps result in early February rather than in December with their admission. Recipients also join the national network of Stamps Scholars across the partner universities.

What It Covers

  • Tuition
  • Fees
  • Housing
  • Books & materials
  • Other

Full cost of attendance for four years (eight academic semesters), renewable. Recipients also receive a one-time $12,000 enrichment award for research and experiential learning, and guaranteed admission to UConn's Honors Programme. Off-campus housing and food outside a university meal plan are not covered by merit scholarships.

Eligibility

Restricted to Storrs campus applicants, and listed by UConn under 'Available to All Applicants' alongside separate in-state-only and international-only award groups. Applicants must be enrolled in and expected to graduate from a secondary school and enrol at UConn for the autumn 2027 semester, be involved in leadership activities at school or in the community, and show a commitment to community service. Test scores are optional; applicants who do submit them should reach a combined SAT of 1420 or an ACT composite of 32. Selection is highly competitive, and transfer students are ineligible for merit scholarships.

How to Apply

Two steps. Submit the undergraduate application for admission with all required documents, then complete the Stamps Scholarship Supplemental Application, which appears in the applicant portal once the admission application is in. Selected applicants have a required interview with the Admissions Committee and the Stamps Scholars Programme. You may apply for only one of the Stamps, Nutmeg or Day of Pride scholarships. Early decision applicants are told their Stamps outcome in early February rather than with their admission decision.
