GENIUS Coding allows students to use their coding skills to create innovative solutions to environmental issues. Students are expected to use Python programming language to develop algorithmic solutions for problems given by GENIUS Olympiad. As of 2026, the competition has transitioned to a hackathon-style format at the in-person finals held at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). It provides students with a lifetime experience and an opportunity to enhance their life skills such as coding, creative thinking, and problem-solving. Students work individually to solve the problems. Only paper sources are allowed during the competition, and AI chatbot tools are prohibited.
