The International Medicine and Disease Olympiad (IMDO) is the annual world championship in medical knowledge and problem-solving for pre-college students. First held in 2015 in San Diego, CA, it later moved online and now brings together student competitors from countries around the world.
Competition format: A 3-hour online exam consisting of multiple choice and free response questions testing both medical knowledge and clinical problem-solving skills related to medicine and disease.
How to qualify:
- Students in most countries qualify by taking the USMDO (U.S. Medicine and Disease Olympiad), hosted by Creative Odyssey at usmdo.org — open to students from all countries outside China
- Students in China qualify via the ChinaMDO, hosted by XueMingRui
- Countries with a population above 250 million may send up to 8 representatives; all others may send up to 4
Eligibility:
- Under 21 years old at the time of the competition
- Not yet enrolled in college
- Citizen or permanent resident of the country you represent
The IMDO aims to promote interest in medicine and recognize the strongest high school-level problem solvers interested in the medical field. Past competitions have drawn participants from the US, China, Lithuania, Thailand, and other countries.
