About the Scholarship

The Government of Brunei Darussalam Scholarship to Foreign Students funds diploma, undergraduate and master's study at five institutions in Brunei: Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali, Universiti Teknologi Brunei, Kolej Universiti Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan and Politeknik Brunei.

Tuition is waived, return economy airfare is provided, and the award adds accommodation, comprehensive insurance, a monthly personal allowance, a meals allowance, an annual book allowance and a baggage allowance on arrival.

Doctoral study is not offered under this scholarship.

Applications are made through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal and must be endorsed by the applicant's own government or its embassy, which makes the endorsement step the part worth starting early.

Full tuition exemption, return economy airfare from the home country, accommodation at the university or polytechnic, comprehensive insurance, a personal allowance of BND 500 a month, a meals allowance of BND 150 a month, an annual book allowance of BND 600, and a baggage allowance of BND 250 for applicants from ASEAN countries or BND 500 for everyone else.

Eligibility

Applicants need English at credit 6 in GCE O Level English, grade C in IGCSE English as a second language, IELTS 6.0, or TOEFL 550. Applications require certified transcripts and certificates with English translations, a statement of purpose, a birth certificate and passport copies, two typed referee reports, and a security vetting statement from the applicant's national security agency or police. A medical check is required only after an award is made. Not more than 25 for diploma and undergraduate applicants, and not more than 35 for master's applicants, both measured on the first day of July of the year the programme starts.

Eligible Countries

citizenship: Open to international students of any nationality studying for the first time in Brunei Darussalam. Citizens and permanent residents of Brunei are ineligible, as is anyone who is studying or has studied at a tertiary institution in Brunei.

How to Apply

Apply through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs online portal. The form must be endorsed by your country's ministry of foreign affairs, ministry of education or national scholarship focal point, or by its embassy if you apply from abroad. Applicants to Universiti Brunei Darussalam and Universiti Teknologi Brunei must also apply to those institutions directly.
