The Tata Scholarship funds undergraduate study at Cornell for students who attended secondary school in India. A $25 million endowment from the Tata Education and Development Trust supports approximately 20 scholars at any point in time, and recipients keep the award for the length of their undergraduate degree.
There is no separate application. Students apply for admission to Cornell and complete the CSS Profile to apply for financial aid, and eligible applicants are considered automatically. Cornell meets 100 percent of the demonstrated financial need of admitted international undergraduates, with aid offers made up of Cornell grants, an annual work-study award, and student loans scaled to family income.
Funding runs for up to eight semesters, or ten semesters for the five-year architecture programme. Additional semesters taken for a double major or a dual degree are not funded. The scholarship honours Ratan Tata, a Cornell alumnus and former university trustee who chaired Tata Sons.
