About the Scholarship

Lund's scholarship is a discount on the fee, not a way to pay for a year in Sweden. It covers part or all of tuition and nothing beyond it, and recipients still have to show the Migration Agency they can support themselves before a residence permit is issued.

How much is covered is worth understanding before pinning hopes on a full waiver. The share of the fee a grant covers follows the budget of the programme and faculty, and Lund states plainly that it does not reflect the applicant's academic standing. A strong application improves the odds of an award rather than the size of one.

Eligibility is narrower at bachelor's level than the name suggests. Master's programmes are broadly covered, but undergraduates can only apply on four of them: Development Studies, Mathematics, Physics and Physical Geography.

Selection is merit alone, and Lund says outright that financial need is not part of it. The published priorities are academic performance, fit with the programme, commitment to studying at Lund, and having ranked a Lund programme as first choice. That last one makes the admission application itself part of the scholarship case.

Two separate applications are required, first for the programme through universityadmissions.se and then for the scholarship through Lund's own portal, with a motivation letter capped at 600 words.

Timing repeats annually rather than sitting on a fixed date. Lund says the application usually opens in early February each year, and the 2026 round closed on 16 February, so February is the month to watch and the university's page is the place to confirm the exact day.

The scholarship page was checked on 16 September 2026.

What It Covers

  • Tuition

Grants cover part or all of the tuition fee and nothing else. Living costs are excluded, and recipients must still show the funds the Swedish Migration Agency requires for a residence permit. How much of the fee a grant covers depends on the budget of the programme and faculty rather than on how strong the application was, so a stronger candidate does not necessarily receive a larger reduction. Lund allocates roughly 26 million Swedish kronor to the scheme each year.

Eligibility

Be liable for tuition fees as a citizen from outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland, and hold a place on an eligible programme. The scheme is open across master's programmes, while at bachelor's level it is limited to four: Development Studies, Mathematics, Physics and Physical Geography. Selection is merit-based only and financial need is not considered. Priority goes to applicants who show strong academic performance, who are assessed as a good fit for the programme, who show a strong commitment to studying at Lund, and who have placed a Lund programme first in their choices.

Eligible Countries

Citizens of a country outside the EU and EEA, and outside Switzerland, who are required to pay tuition fees at Lund.

How to Apply

Two applications are needed. Apply for the programme itself through universityadmissions.se first, then apply for the scholarship through Lund's separate scholarship portal, including a personal scholarship motivation letter of at most 600 words. Placing Lund first among your programme choices is one of the stated priority criteria, so the order of the admission application affects the scholarship decision.
