Oregon State University guarantees international students an award set by where they live rather than by their grades, which makes it unusual among US merit programmes. Students from Europe, Latin America, Central Asia, Indonesia and Singapore receive $16,000 a year, India $14,000, Vietnam and Africa $12,000, Southeast Asia and Hong Kong and Macau $8,000, and Taiwan $2,000.
Over four years that reaches $64,000 at the top end. There is no application and no grade threshold, and renewal needs only a 2.0 grade average.
Two limits matter. Students funded by a government or external sponsor are excluded, and the award cannot be combined with the university's Provost's Scholarship for Excellence. Figures are the 2025 to 2026 maximums and the university notes actual awards may be lower.
