About the Scholarship

Otterbein puts a single merit band in front of its international undergraduate applicants, worth between $12,000 and $22,000 a year. Where you land in that band depends on a mix of academic performance and test scores.

There is no form to chase. Otterbein considers every international applicant for the scholarship at the point of application, so the strength of the application itself sets the figure.

Be clear about what is left to cover. Otterbein lists tuition at $36,598, room and board at $13,110 and other living expenses at $6,268, and states that it does not fund international students at 100%. Even at the top of the band a family is funding a substantial share, so work the arithmetic before you commit.

Two details worth noting. If you have spent three or more years at a United States high school, or hold 30 semester hours of college credit, Otterbein reviews you on its domestic merit criteria instead, where the published awards run higher. And the application plus all supporting materials are due six months before your intended start, with first-year entry in autumn only, so an Otterbein plan needs an early start.

What It Covers

  • Tuition

Applied to tuition, which Otterbein lists at $36,598 a year. Otterbein states that it does not fund international students at 100%, so the balance of tuition plus room and board of about $13,110 and other living expenses of about $6,268 stay with the student.

Eligibility

For international undergraduate applicants to Otterbein. The award is based on a combination of factors including test scores and academic performance. International students who studied in the United States for three or more years of high school, or who hold 30 semester hours of college credit, are reviewed for merit scholarships using the criteria for domestic students. Applicants seeking an F-1 visa must be degree seeking. Non-native speakers of English show proficiency with scores such as 79 on the TOEFL iBT, 6.5 on IELTS or 105 on the Duolingo English Test.
