PLU funds artistic talent separately from academic merit, at $1,000 to $7,500 a year, renewable. The fields are art and design, dance, media, music and theatre, covering both acting and technical theatre.
You apply for it and you audition or submit a portfolio. Students may compete in more than one field, and the award stacks on top of the International Merit Award of $8,000 to $32,000.
Dates and the audition format vary by department, so check PLU's College of Professional Studies pages early. International applicants are eligible, and auditions for performing fields can usually be arranged without flying to Tacoma.
