About the Scholarship

Roanoke College sets its merit awards by grade average, from $21,000 a year at 4.0 down to $11,000 at 2.00, with transfers on a lower band. Add-ons of $1,000 for test scores, $2,000 for a campus visit and $1,000 for an alumni connection can be stacked on top.

One detail matters: once the college presents a need-based award, it stops evaluating for further merit aid.

The award follows acceptance with no separate application, and runs for up to seven additional semesters with satisfactory academic progress.

What It Covers

  • Tuition

First-year tiers by grade average: $21,000 at 4.0 and above, $19,000 at 3.70, $17,000 at 3.50, $15,000 at 3.00, $13,000 at 2.50 and $11,000 at 2.00. Transfers receive $9,000 to $17,000. An add-on of $1,000 applies to applicants with a grade average of at least 3.0 and an SAT of 1200 or ACT of 25 at acceptance. The college's separate visit grant and legacy award carry no statement that an international student can receive them, so they are not counted here. Renewable for up to eight semesters on satisfactory academic progress. Once a need-based award is made the college stops evaluating for further merit aid.

Eligibility

Full-time degree-seeking students, with the tier set by secondary school grade average for first-year applicants or transfer grade average for transfers. Note that once a need-based award is presented, the college stops evaluating for additional merit aid. It does not state whether international applicants qualify.

Eligible Countries

Roanoke publishes no citizenship restriction for its merit awards and does not state whether international applicants qualify, so confirm with the admissions office.
