The 1870 Scholarship is named for the year Syracuse was founded and is the university's headline merit award for incoming first-year students. Syracuse says it often covers full tuition for the length of the programme, which makes it the single largest merit lever available to a student applying from abroad.
Selection rests on academic talent, innovation, leadership and community service. There is no separate form and no separate deadline, because Syracuse decides all of its merit awards when it decides admission.
The important structural point is that Syracuse merit money is tuition-specific. It can sit alongside other tuition-specific awards up to the cost of tuition, but housing, food and fees stay on your bill. Syracuse states that applicants are considered regardless of citizenship or country of birth, so an international applicant is in the pool automatically.
