About the Scholarship

This is the largest of the University of Maine's international awards at $25,110 a year, and it works as a tuition match: it brings what an international student pays down to the in-state rate of $13,230.

Read the eligibility before anything else. The university restricts it to international students who graduate from a secondary school in Maine, so it reaches students already living in the state on a visa, not applicants from abroad. If you are applying from outside the United States, the Flagship Match and Flagship Leaders bands are the ones open to you.

It covers tuition only, not living costs.

What It Covers

Tuition

$25,110 a year, which the university describes as lowering the out-of-pocket cost to match a full-paying Maine resident. Against international tuition of $38,340 that leaves $13,230, the in-state rate. Living costs are not covered. Amounts are the university's published 2026 to 2027 rates; it has not yet posted 2027 to 2028 figures. A minimum cumulative secondary school grade average of 2.5 is needed to qualify. Renewable for up to eight semesters over four years or 120 credits, whichever comes first, on satisfactory academic progress and at least six graded credits a semester. Aid is reduced below 15 credits a semester, and the amount is fixed at admission.

How to Apply

No separate application. Applicants are considered automatically on admission. Applying by the early action date carries the maximum award and may add a further $3,000 early action award; regular decision closes 1 March, with a final date of 15 July for applicants outside the United States and Canada.
