The Chancellor's Award pays $10,000 to $18,000 a year at UMass Amherst and is the only one of the university's named merit awards an international student can realistically hold.
That conclusion needs stating plainly, because the university does not spell it out. It names three first-year merit awards: the Flagship Award for in-state applicants who are low income or first generation, the Dean's Award for students from Massachusetts, and this one for students from outside Massachusetts. Its financial aid pages separately confirm international undergraduates are considered for merit scholarships during admission, and that no federal aid form is required. Put together, this is the award that reaches them, though no single sentence says so.
One condition to watch: the university states that any change to residency status which reduces your cost of attendance eliminates the award entirely.
