The headline figure on this award, $1,000 a year, badly understates it. The University of North Florida classifies recipients as Florida residents for tuition purposes, which wipes out the out-of-state differential entirely and is worth far more than the cash.
It is open to graduate students from across Latin America and the Caribbean, and requires both citizenship of and residence in a qualifying country. Holders of American permanent residency are excluded.
The application asks for an essay of three to five paragraphs on a problem in your home country, alongside proof of ties there, so the university is looking for students who intend to take the degree home.
