About the Scholarship

The Achievement Scholarship is the University of North Texas's fallback for first-year students who miss its Excellence grid, worth $1,000 a year for up to four years.

On its own the amount is small against the cost of study. What makes it worth recording is the waiver attached to it: the university says international recipients may qualify for a Texas waiver covering the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition.

One caveat on eligibility. The university's dedicated international scholarships page names only the Excellence and Transfer Excellence awards. Confirmation for this one comes from a sentence about the tuition waiver that names the award and assumes international recipients, which is explicit but less direct.

What It Covers

  • Tuition

$1,000 a year, renewable for up to four years. The university notes that international recipients may qualify for a Texas waiver covering the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition.

Eligibility

Awarded to first-year students who do not meet the Excellence criteria, on academic achievement shown in the admission materials. The university publishes no threshold. Renewable for up to four years, needing continuous autumn and spring enrolment of at least 12 hours, a cumulative grade average of 3.00 at the university, and at least 24 hours a year.

Eligible Countries

The university names international students receiving this award when describing the Texas tuition waiver it can carry. Its dedicated international page names only the Excellence awards, so the evidence here is weaker than for those.
