About the Scholarship

George Fox University gives every admitted student a merit scholarship, and for international students that runs from $18,000 to $24,000 a year on the current table.

The renewal terms are the unusual part. The university states there is no minimum grade average to receive or maintain the award and that it renews every year you are there, which removes the cliff most merit awards impose.

One condition applies to enrolling rather than to the award: all undergraduates attend chapel or chapel electives for 15 hours a semester, take 15 credit hours of Christian life coursework, and sign a community lifestyle agreement. Being Christian is not itself required.

What It Covers

  • Tuition

Tiered by grade average for first-year students: $24,000 at 4.00 and above, $22,000 from 3.80, $20,000 from 3.50, $19,000 from 3.25 and $18,000 from 3.00. Transfers run from $8,000 to $16,000. Against tuition of $45,154 and a total cost of $60,954 this is a partial award. The university's international page shows a narrower range of $20,000 to $24,000 beside a tuition table still labelled for the previous year; the tiered table on the award's own page is the current one. The university caps additional university-funded scholarships at $5,000 on top of the academic merit award, and requires international students to file a declaration of finances showing they can meet an estimated $44,433 a year after scholarships.

Eligibility

Entry as a first-year or transfer student, with the tier set by grade average. No test scores are required. The university states every admitted student receives a merit scholarship, that there is no minimum grade average to receive or maintain it, and that it renews every year. Its online first-year programme is not eligible. Being Christian is not required to attend, but all undergraduates must attend chapel or chapel electives for 15 hours a semester, complete 15 credit hours of liberal arts and Christian life coursework, and abide by the community lifestyle agreement covering alcohol, gambling and entertainment choices.
