About the Scholarship

The Polatajko Family Scholarship is a one-time $1,000 award at Kent State, with preference for students with a connection to Hungary, Poland or Ukraine and first preference for those connected to Ukraine.

The connection can be experience rather than nationality: the university gives preference for experience of the language, culture, history or politics of those countries, whether through living, working or studying there. The published requirements, checked on 13 September 2026, do not restrict nationality. It is open to undergraduates and graduate students alike, and requires financial need alongside a 2.75 grade average.

The application runs through a portal needing university login credentials, so realistically this is for students already admitted rather than applicants abroad.

What It Covers

  • Tuition

$1,000, awarded once rather than annually.

Eligibility

Unconditional admission to the university, demonstrated financial need, and a minimum cumulative grade average of 2.75 on the American 4.0 scale.

Eligible Countries

No nationality restriction is stated. Preference goes to students with experience of the language, culture, history or politics of Hungary, Poland or Ukraine, with first preference to those with experience of Ukraine. This is a selection preference, not a country eligibility requirement.

How to Apply

A separate application through the university's scholarship portal, which needs existing university login credentials, so in practice this is an award for students already admitted. The university has final selection authority.
