The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship pays $6,500 to $8,500 at Seton Hall to students who have overcome economic or educational hardship and shown a commitment to underserved communities.
It weighs hardship alongside the academic record, which is rare among awards open to international students, and it does so without routing through the American federal aid form that closes most need-aware awards to them.
It needs a separate application by 15 January, and recipients stay active in the scholarship association to keep it.
