STRIDE pays $22,500 a year for four years at Smith College, plus $3,000 a year for the first two attached to a research assistantship with a faculty mentor. That is $96,000 in total, and it is awarded regardless of financial need.
The research position is the point as much as the money: about seven hours a week working alongside a faculty member from the first year, which is unusual for an undergraduate anywhere.
Two things to be clear about. Smith is a women's college and admits applicants who self-identify as women, including cis, trans and nonbinary women. And on eligibility, Smith marks its US-citizens-only merit awards with an explicit sentence, applies that marker to three of its five, and withholds it here, while running the merit section on its financial aid page for international students. No sentence names international students and this award together, so that convention is the basis.
