GatosMX caps tuition at the University of Arizona at 150 percent of the in-state rate, about $21,000 a year, for students who finished secondary school in Baja California, Chihuahua, Sinaloa or Sonora.
It works as a rate cap rather than a cash award, so the saving is the gap against the full non-resident rate. The cap holds for eight semesters, or ten for architecture, under the university's guaranteed tuition programme.
US citizens and permanent residents are excluded. Students are reviewed automatically when they apply, and those selected see the award in their admission letter, so applying by the 1 November Early Action deadline matters. It cannot be combined with other university awards.
