Sewanee awards seven Global Scholarships each year to admitted international applicants who are not US citizens. Each one pays the direct costs of tuition, room, board and fees for four consecutive years, so the bill that normally runs past $80,000 a year is covered.
Selection rests on two things together, a strong academic record and demonstrated high financial need. You have to apply for need-based financial aid to be considered, which means filing the CSS Profile and uploading family financial documents to your Applicant Status Page. International students who apply without requesting aid are locked out of need-based aid for the whole of their time at Sewanee, so this decision is made once, at application.
First-year applicants get priority, and autumn transfers are also considered. There is no separate scholarship application, just the Common Application completed by your round deadline with a complete aid file.
The award stops at direct costs. Sewanee tells international students to budget about $5,000 for the first year to cover books, health insurance, personal spending, visa and SEVIS fees, travel and classes that carry an extra fee. US federal tax of 12 to 14 percent applies to aid above tuition and to income from authorised employment.
