About the Scholarship

The #YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship covers half of tuition at the University of Idaho for first-year international students, and it is decided on an essay or a short video rather than on grades.

No academic threshold applies to selection at all, which makes it one of the more reachable awards here for a student whose transcript does not carry them. The commitment comes later: renewal requires ten hours a semester of cultural engagement through an internship with the international programmes office, plus a 3.0 average.

Do the arithmetic before choosing it. Half of $29,300 is about $14,650, slightly less than the roughly $15,762 that Invitation to Idaho gives automatically, and the two cannot be combined. Taking this one means giving that up.

What It Covers

  • Tuition

Fifty per cent of tuition, renewable for up to four years, autumn and spring only. Against 2026 to 2027 non-resident tuition and fees of $29,300 that is roughly $14,650, slightly less than the university's Invitation to Idaho benefit, and the two cannot be combined. A third university page describes it as up to 50 per cent rather than a flat 50 per cent.

Eligibility

First-year international applicants who attended or graduated from a secondary school outside the United States. No academic threshold applies to selection. Renewal needs at least 10 hours a semester of cultural sharing and community engagement through an internship with the international programmes office, a cumulative grade average of at least 3.0, and 12 credits completed each autumn and spring.

Eligible Countries

The university states these are open to first-year international students admitted to undergraduate degree programmes, and requires that the applicant attended or graduated from a secondary school outside the United States.
