The University of North Texas sets its main merit award on a grid rather than a single threshold, pairing unweighted grade average with class rank. A 3.75 average in the top 1 per cent pays $12,000 a year; a 3.25 average in the top 25 per cent pays $2,000.
An SAT of 1350 or ACT of 30 adds $1,000. More valuable for an international student, the university says recipients may also qualify for a Texas waiver covering the gap between in-state and out-of-state tuition, which is worth considerably more than the scholarship itself.
The published cycle dates had already passed when we checked and the university had not yet posted the next round, so confirm the current deadlines with the financial aid office.
