The Powell Scholarship is the largest award in this directory that an international student can apply for at the University of the Pacific: $49,000 a year, plus up to $5,000 for independent research and up to $2,500 for study abroad.
Up to ten are awarded a year, decided on academics and leadership with an on-campus interview in February. The university describes the ideal candidate as having a 3.7 unweighted average and leadership in two or more areas, but frames these as a profile rather than cut-offs.
One caution. The university states plainly that it offers no full-ride, full-cost or full-tuition scholarships, so even an award this size leaves a gap. Its international FAQ still shows $43,000 and a 1 December deadline, both left over from an earlier cycle.
