My high school

My name is Azhar. I am from Kazakhstan. I currently study in the Bilim Innovation Lyceum for girls. I could call it a semi-public school. It is not as advanced, and it does not offer any IB or AP advanced courses. It couldn't give me lots of benefits in my application to the Vogue Summer School. At the moment of the application process, I was studying in 10th grade.

Why Vogue Summer School

I searched for a program that was focused on fashion, precisely on fashion media because I'm more inclined to the media side. There weren't any courses that offered that specific field to study except the Vogue Summer School. I discovered the Vogue Summer School after doing thorough research on my own on the Internet and social media. After finding this program, I managed to apply on the last day of the priority application cycle.

About the Program

More details about Vogue Summer Schol can be found on their website: https://www.voguesummerschool.com/

The main thing is that we had academic classes focused primarily and solely on fashion media. We had subjects like fashion history, the structure of a magazine, how articles are written, and how layouts and pictures are done. We were given lectures by Arie L. Kopelman, who was the president of Chanel. It was an unforgettable experience.

Scholarship

Vogue Summer School is the only program in the fashion field that offers financial aid and scholarships for international students. The number of scholarship recipients was 11 out of 106 accepted people in my group. It was competitive to get the scholarship. Also, my scholarship wasn't full; it covered 80% of my costs.

Application process

You need to write one required brief essay of 200 words and the optional one. You also should provide your school transcript with grades and portfolio work. A portfolio does not have to be accredited. Personally, I have been writing articles for myself just to improve my writing skills. I daily check fashion news. When I see some news, I write an article about it as if it's for Harper's Bazaar or Elle. For my portfolio for the program, I picked the best article of all. I also wrote the second article the day before the deadline. Ultimately, I sent two of my pieces as my portfolio. Also, you need to fill up the questionnaire about yourself and provide some documents if you are applying for financial aid, such as your father's, mother's yearly annual salary, tax return, etc.

The Vogue Summer School doesn't require an interview in the application process. My admission letter came after three weeks.ย
