Hello! I am Jerome from Egypt. I am a rising senior at Red Sea STEM School. Recently, I scored a bronze medal at the Genius Olympiad.
What is the Genius Olympiad and how to participate
The Genius Olympiad is an international high school competition with several categories: science, writing, filming, business, robotics, arts, music, and coding. All these categories have the same goal: solving grand environmental challenges in the world. I participated with my teammate Mohaned in the science track by applying through the website before March 8. First, I paid the application fee, which was $50. After that, I had to fill out the application with information about the project, including the results, analysis, and recommendations.
About our project
First, I had a meeting with Mohaned to plan the project. We were curious about the goals of the Genius Olympiad, which were environmental. So, we decided to make a project to protect the environment in the industrial field. We found that factories produce most of the waste in the world and, consequently, damage the environment. Therefore, we made a machine that separates industrial waste from products. After that, it recycles the waste. This process occurs using a couple of sensors with automatic actions.
Exhibition Day, Evaluation Process, and Results
The Genius Olympiad happens annually at the Rochester Institute of Technology. The evaluation process consists of 5 rounds, each with a different judge from the university. Each round lasts between 8-10 minutes. The results are announced at the end of the day. I took 3rd place in the science category. Consequently, I won a $15,000 renewable partial scholarship from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
