The Harvard Pre-Collegiate Economics Challenge (HPEC) is an annual in-person quiz bowl competition for high school students, organized by the Harvard Undergraduate Economics Association (HUEA) and held on Harvard's campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts. HUEA describes it as "a prestigious international competition" open to high school students worldwide.
Teams of 1–4 students compete across individual and team rounds, testing knowledge of AP Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, economic theory, economic news, history, recent research, and interdisciplinary applications. The competition follows a bracket format with Champions, Finalists, Semifinalists, and Quarterfinalists recognized. Past champions include Choate Rosemary Hall (2025).
The entry fee is $125 per team. Each team must have a coach (teacher or parent). Registration typically opens in early spring and closes in early April, with the competition held on a Saturday in mid-April. International teams should contact thehuea@gmail.com to arrange payment and logistics.
