About the Program

JHU Summer Pre-College Programs let high school students spend two weeks living on Johns Hopkins' Homewood Campus in Baltimore, taking college-level courses taught by Hopkins instructors alongside visits from top researchers and experts. The program runs three back-to-back sessions each summer; students may attend one, two, or all three (in different programs each session).

Most recently confirmed session dates (2026, on-campus residential):

SessionMove-InClassesMove-Out
Session 1June 20June 21 – July 1July 1
Session 2July 5July 6 – July 16July 16
Session 3July 19July 20 – July 30July 30

The official registrar registration page gives different academic starts for historical Sessions I and II (June 22 and July 7). The residential page’s dates above are retained as attributed history.

Published 2027 on-campus academic dates: Session 1 June 28–July 8; Session 2 July 12–22; Session 3 July 26–August 5. These come from the official faculty timeline, which separates on-campus and online dates. Residential arrival/departure dates, 2027 application cutoffs, eligibility and fees are not confirmed on the checked student-facing pages. Institutional course-cancellation milestones are not student application deadlines.

Historical 2026 cost: $6,140 per session (including: tuition, housing, dining, recreation facilities, library access, and social activities/excursions)

Not included: $85 application fee, travel to/from Baltimore, course materials, off-campus meals, personal expenses.

Program focus areas (2026 catalog, on-campus offerings):

  • Medicine & Biology: Medical School Intensive, Introduction to Surgery, Applied Anatomy and Physiology, Introduction to Experimental Design in Biology, Introduction to Laboratory Research, Social Inequality and the Public's Health
  • Data & Tech: Foundational Mathematics of Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Advertising, Digital Society: Big Data, Social Media, and Ethical Engagement
  • Astronomy: Exploring the Universe with Space Telescopes

Some courses in JHU's broader Pre-College catalog (e.g., Creative Writing, Neuroscience and Human Behavior, Green Chemistry, Population Genomics) are offered online only and are not part of the on-campus residential track described here; see Online Pre-College Programs below.

Historical 2026 aid: The Dean’s Fellowship Award (up to $950) was reserved for students ultimately enrolled online, including residential applicants who switched to online. It did not fund residential enrollment. Its application steps were due March 10 and March 22, 2026; these are not 2027 award deadlines.

Other published 2026 options:

  • Commuter option — for local Baltimore-area students; separate (lower) tuition rate
  • Online Pre-College Programs — self-paced, available worldwide; Dean's Fellowship up to $950 for eligible students
  • Next Generation Scholars Academy — 5-week on-campus experience combining undergraduate coursework with college application skill-building

The historical 2026 on-campus application opened November 20, 2025, with Early Action February 3 and Regular Decision March 10; the general rolling cutoff was July 6, subject to course availability. The $85 application fee was non-refundable. A single $1,950 initial payment was credited toward cost and allowed registration, with the balance due 10 days before the first session.

Checked November 4, 2026 against the 2027 faculty calendar, residential calendar and fees, admissions rules and 2026 aid policy. The 2026 GPA, completed-grade and course-prerequisite requirements remain historical until new-cycle rules are published.

Eligibility

The published 2026 admissions rules required a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0/4.0 and successful completion of grade 9 before the program; individual courses may have prerequisites. International applicants have additional English, transcript and visa requirements. One program may be taken per session. These rules are not confirmed 2027 eligibility.
