The A.W. Smith Innovation Scholarship covers tuition at Case Western Reserve University for two first-year students a year. It is aimed squarely at builders, because the criterion is exceptional achievement in hands-on engineering or science through a successful project.
Eligibility runs to first-year applicants in engineering, the physical sciences and mathematics. If you have a finished project you can describe, from a robot to a piece of instrumentation to a piece of software with users, this is the competition where it counts for the most.
International students can participate in Case Western's scholarship competitions unless a competition notes otherwise, and this one does not, so a student applying from abroad can compete for full tuition.
You submit a separate scholarship application with an essay by 15 February, alongside a complete admission application, and winners are notified by 1 April. An award in the amount of tuition replaces any other Case Western scholarship or grant.
