Six students a year get full tuition at DeSales University through the Leadership Scholarship. It is aimed at applicants who led something at school, in a club, a team context outside athletics, a community group or a student body, and who intend to carry on leading at DeSales.
The application is short but specific. You write an essay of 500 words or fewer on one of five Salesian traits, gentleness, humility, gratitude, hospitality or wisdom, and send it with a resume alongside your DeSales admission application. Shortlisted students interview with student life staff, who pick the six winners. One quirk worth knowing: DeSales competes in NCAA Division III, so leadership in athletics cannot be considered in any scholarship decision.
The award covers tuition in the traditional day programme. Housing, food, fees and insurance remain your cost, and international applicants are still asked for a statement of finances covering at least one full year before immigration paperwork is issued. Current DeSales students cannot apply, and the award does not move with you to another university.
DeSales publishes the guidelines against a named entry cohort with a 1 December application date. Check the page in the autumn for the cohort that matches your entry year, and apply early, because the admission application has to be in by the same deadline as the scholarship essay.
